Le Perigord

As most of you probably know, it's Restaurant Week in NYC. Last week I went to a French restaurant called Le Perigord, located on the corner of 52nd Street and 1st Avenue.

The restaurant can be a bit overwhelming at first. It's set up very different from any other French restuarant I've been too. The tables are placed very close together, so if you don't want the person next to you to hear your conversation, I would suggest you whisper. About half of the waitstaff speaks French and expects you to as well, but don't be disheartened. Many of the patrons who dine there don't speak a word of French.

The food itself is pretty good. They use delicious sauces to bring out the flavor in all of their meats. I had the salmon which came in a tangy yellow sauce with polenta which looked so pretty on the plate and tasted very fresh. For dessert, I would recomment the chocolate mousse with berries. It's great for chocolate lovers and light so you don't feel as guilty!

The waitstaff is very helpful. They're quite prompt in serving courses and making adjustments so you can enjoy a great meal. Although I was a little taken aback by the atmosphere of the restaurant, I think it's definitely worth trying!
